TID Assistance Available

             Businesses located within the boundaries of the City’s Tax Increment District (TID) #3 may be eligible for financial assistance for building renovations.  Eligibility does require an increase in the value of your building.  Typically, parking lot improvements and minor storefront improvements do not increase the value of a building and therefore would not be eligible for the enhancement grant.  Improvements eligible for reimbursement include: renovations to the building exterior including siding, windows, signs and lights; additionally site improvements including grading and filling, landscaping, burying overhead wires and demolition. 

             Applications for assistance must be made prior to beginning the work and must include documentation of the improvements for the exterior work and any interior remodeling.  Businesses could be eligible for reimbursement from the city of up to 20% of the cost of the increased value of the property (up to $10,000 reimbursement.)

Facade Enhancement Grants Available

             The City of Durand is pleased to announce the creation of a new program that is designed to supplement the TID assistance program described above. The new program, called the Facade Enhancement Grant Program, provides funding assistance to projects that significantly improve the visual appearance of the property from the street. Grants may be used for certain facade enhancements which include awnings, window lettering, and historic signage. In addition, facade enhancements for buildings outside of the TID #3 boundaries but still located within the City of Durand’s central business district are also eligible for funding. Grants are provided as a reimbursement in an amount up to 50% of the total project costs, with a maximum grant amount of $2,000 per eligible project.  The first grant recipient of this new program was the Accola Gallery in February of 2008.
